Acquisition of property in Dubai by a foreigner

28.03.2025 / News / Real Estate

Did you know that in Dubai, foreigners can only acquire full ownership of property in specially designated areas? These areas are called “freehold areas” and are usually intended for development by real estate developers.

Outside of these zones, foreigners can acquire property ownership rights only in certain free zones. However, while property transactions in these zones are permitted, they are mainly for commercial purposes rather than residential ones.

An alternative is the option to purchase a long-term leasehold, which allows the use of the property for up to 99 years. It is important to note, however, that leaseholder rights are more limited compared to full ownership!
