Does the fact that an adult has family living nearby relieve public institutions of the obligation to provide real assistance?
In the latest report of the program Interwencja broadcast on Telewizja Polsat, expert commentary on this issue was provided by Monika Wiśniewska – Attorney-at-Law in the Family Law Department at Sadkowski i Wspólnicy.
The case concerns 50-year-old Mr. Rafał from Małopolska, who was living without running water or heating, in a house at risk of collapse.
He was assisted only by a neighbor, who brought him food and water.
The Social Welfare Center (OPS) claimed that the man was receiving support; however, questions arose regarding its scope and effectiveness.
The report emphasized that institutions are obliged to genuinely verify an individual’s situation and provide systemic assistance – regardless of whether family members live nearby.
Following the program’s intervention, Mr. Rafał was placed in a nursing home (Social Welfare Home).
