New Rules for Granting the EU Blue Card

10.06.2025 / News / Immigration Law

On June 1, the Act of April 24, 2025, amending the Act on Foreigners and certain other acts came into force. This legislation implements EU Directive 2021/1883 concerning new rules for granting the so-called EU Blue Card — a temporary residence permit for the purpose of employment in a profession requiring high qualifications.

Good news for IT professionals!
According to the provisions of the Act, in cases where a foreign national has not completed higher education, possessing high professional qualifications for certain IT-related professions can be confirmed by at least 3 years of professional experience — provided that the experience was gained within no more than 7 years before the application is submitted. For other applicants, the required period of professional experience remains 5 years.

The list of professions eligible for this simplified qualification recognition path is specified in the announcement by the Minister of the Interior and Administration dated June 3, 2025, and published on June 6. The list includes not only professions with codes from the so-called “25” group but also ICT (Information and Communication Technology) managers.
